John Daly's Latest Design to Open Monday |
|
The first John Daly Signature Course in the West will be opening October 15th in Corning, Calif., with "Big John" to attend the unveiling. Sevillano Links at Rolling Hills Casino will open its doors Monday with a golf tournament benefiting the United Way of Northern California.
Sevillano Links is the first John Daly Signature Course with a West Coast address. Corning lies 90 miles north of Sacramento and Daly's birthplace of Carmichael. The course is a development of the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians, which also owns the neighboring casino.
The grand-opening festivities will tee off with an 8:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a media session with the five-time PGA Tour winner. Next, a long-game clinic and driving exhibition will be conducted by Daly, who will then move to the par-5 18th hole (which stretches 686 yards from the John Daly tees) and hit a drive with each foursome. Following the tournament, participants will attend a reception and awards banquet at Carlino's Event Center hosted by Daly, Sevillano Links and Rolling Hills Casino.
The par-72 layout, designed in highlands-links style, spans 400 acres of rolling terrain and features native grasses, ponds, and more than 50 bunkers. Bermuda tees and fairways, accented by areas of bluegrass/rye rough, and bentgrass greens highlight the 120-plus acres of manicured turf that meanders through tribal land. With five sets of tees, ranging in length from 5,429 yards to a Daly-esque 7,823 yards, the course is adaptable for golfers of varying skills. "You don't have to play the same course out here," said Daly. "That's what's unique about it."
