Jamie Farr Classic to Take One-Year Break

LPGA Tour and tournament officials have announced that the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic will not be held in 2011. The event will return in 2012 for at least three more years.

LPGA commissioner Michael Whan made the announcement at a dinner Tuesday night in Toledo, Ohio, before this year's Farr Classic. Now in its 26th year, the event begins today at Highland Meadows Golf Club in suburban Toledo.

In making the scheduling change, Whan said tournament organizers will be running the 2011 U.S. Senior Open in Toledo and they had concerns whether it would be economically viable to stage two major golf events in the area at around the same time.

The commissioner says the LPGA has signed a deal to continue the Farr Classic in 2012, '13 and '14.
