Ishikawa to Become Youngest Ever to Play in PGA Championship
Japanese teen golf sensation Ryo Ishikawa has received a special invitation to play in the 91st PGA Championship.
Ishikawa, believed to be the youngest entrant in a PGA Championship, will be 17 years, 10 months and 27 days old once he tees off August 13, at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
The previous youngest entrant on record in a PGA Championship is three-time champion Gene Sarazen, who was 19 years, seven months old when he competed in his first PGA Championship, September 26, 1921, at Inwood Country Club in Far Rockaway, N.Y.
"I received the news today, I'm very happy," Ishikawa said Tuesday. "My impression is that it's an extremely tough layout and I will aim as high as I can."
Ishikawa, a two-time winner on the Japan PGA Tour, missed the cut in his Masters debut in April, for which he also received a special invitation.
