Harper Wins PNGA Men's Mid-Am

Sandy Harper of Nanaimo, B.C. rolled in his final birdie putt on the 18th hole to go 8-under and become the winner of the 23rd PNGA Men's Mid-Amateur Championship. The event was played at the 6,780-yard, par-72 Big Sky Golf & Country Club in Pemberton, B.C. Erik Hanson of Kirkland, Wash., sank his 10-foot birdie attempt on the finishing hole to go 6-under and finish alone as the runner-up.
For the second time during the week, Harper went bogey-free in a round. His final-round 68 included a birdie on the 413-yard par-4 second along with birdies on the 10th, 11th, and 18th holes. Harper made only three bogeys over 54 holes.
John Cassidy of Yelm, Wash., and Ben Griffin of Victoria, B.C., began the day two strokes behind the leader and stayed in the hunt the entire round. In the end, both players fired 3-under 69s to get to 5-under for the tournament, but were still three strokes back.
The Men’s Mid-Amateur is one of 15 regional championships conducted annually by the PNGA. For more information about the PNGA and the Mid-Amateur, visit www.thepnga.org.
