Haig Point to Receive Extensive Upgrades
In June, members of the exclusive Haig Point on Daufuskie Island passed a $15 million strategic plan. Managed by Troon Golf, the club in South Carolina is one of the most exclusive golf course communities on the Atlantic Coast.
Though located just one nautical mile away from the golf hub of Hilton Head, Haig Point is difficult to get to. It is not reachable by bridge, only private ferry, thus ensuring no cars, no crowds, and no distracting commercial development for the members and residents.
During the next five years Haig Point will spend $5.5 million on renovations to its Rees Jones 27-hole golf course; $2.7 million to upgrade the ferry system; and $1.9 million to transform the current beach club into an oceanfront meeting and dining facility. The latter element, called “The Calibogue Club,” will offer great views of Calibogue Sound and Harbour Town.
In addition, $2 million has been allocated to upgrade the buildings and roads at Haig Point, improving both the community and Hilton Head docks.
“The strong vote for passage of the strategic plan, at a time when many clubs are redefining themselves, shows dramatically that Haig Point has a clear direction for an even brighter future,” said Rick Layton, general manager of Haig Point. “The membership has spoken loudly and the management team looks forward to helping to implement this great plan.”
Haig Point is an environmentally sensitive and architecturally distinguished, uncrowded community. With real estate offerings ranging from cottages to villas to estate homes, there is something for everyone. The large home sites offer choice views of the Atlantic, Calibogue Sound, the seascapes of saltwater marshes, or verdant golf fairways and greens.
