Harbottle's work on the private course involved rebuilding all the greens, tees, bunkers, substantial tree removal and restoration of a creek that enters play on five holes.
Noted golf historian and Southern California Golf Association Foundation board member, Kevin Smith, wrote of the project: "At Hacienda, Harbottle has fashioned some of the most dramatic and aesthetically intimidating bunkers in the region, all without compromising Hacienda's roots in the classical era or its identity as a Willie Watson design."
Also underway at Hacienda is a new 27,000-square-foot clubhouse. If all goes well, the new clubhouse, which is part of an overall $14 million project at the facility, will be completed in summer 2006.
