Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Los Valles Golf Club Near LA |
|
Neither grey skies nor intermittent showers could dampen the spirits of the crowd that gathered atop a grassy plateau to listen to Arnold Palmer enthusiastically describe his first signature course in the greater Los Angeles area, Los Valles Golf Club.
“The beauty of this place is so spectacular, and the development team is so experienced, that it provides an added thrill to our entire design company to be a part of Los Valles,” Palmer said.
Assisting in the development is master planner Gil Martinez, who was contacted over eight years earlier by developer Dan S. Palmer to assist with the planned community tucked into the hills of Hasley Canyon near Castaic. Dan Palmer identified Martinez, president of GMA of Newport Beach, Calif., as the planner best suited to understand, create and articulate the politically-challenging development. Martinez had previous experience as the master planner of the Tradition in La Quinta, which was built almost a decade ago.
Martinez helped forge a development, design and construction team that, besides Arnold Palmer Design, includes Bill Kubly of Landscapes Unlimited, and Ken Alperstein of Pinnacle Design, a landscape architect.
The par-71, 6,700-yard layout involves varied canyon and meadow terrain. Construction will begin later this spring and completion is set for March 2008. The course will be augmented by a practice green, driving range and clubhouse. The club will offer private memberships yet allow public play.
Also planned for the project are 209 home sites, with lots ranging in price from $600,000 to over $1 million. Los Valles will a family-oriented development, with a system of equestrian and hiking trails, open spaces, neighborhood parks and a recreational complex that will feature tennis courts, a swim and athletic club, and a children’s recreational area. Memberships will begin at $45,000.
