Sal Johnson
Golf Observer (http://www.golfobserver.com/home.php) is the brainchild of Sal Johnson, who has published the website for seven years. Sal was formerly the replay producer for ABC Sports when the network covered golf. Over the past 17 years he's written stories and provided stats for publications like Golf Digest (1993-96), Golf World (1993-96), Golfweek (1997-99) and Golf Magazine (1999-2007).
Sal currently contributes stats for Sports Illustrated's Golf Plus section and produces player guides for the four major championships. Sal has attended over 600 PGA Tour events during the past 35 years, including a total of 126 major championships. He currently has a streak of attending every major dating back to the 1987 PGA Championship.
In today's installment, Sal discusses the Bob Hope Classic, which teed off Wednesday in La Quinta, Calif. The weather-racked tournament, which spans five rounds, requires that each player in the field to play all four courses used for the event to be eligible for the victory. With Thursday's second round already canceled after up to 1.5 inches of rainfall, officials are now hoping - weather permitting - for a Monday finish.
Click on the link in the top paragraph to read Sal's expert opinion on the chances of first-round leader, Shane Bertsch, who opened with a scintillating 10-under 62 on the Palmer Course at PGA West, holding on for his first career victory.
