Golf Industry Show Volunteers aid New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity

Earlier in February, Golf Industry Show partners sent nearly 200 volunteers to help New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity work on eight homes being built in two of the most devastated areas of the Crescent City. Show partners and volunteers also donated more than $10,000 to help in the restorations.

The volunteers were golf course superintendents and owners, club managers, golf course builders and architects in New Orleans for the annual conferences and trade show. The volunteers included people from all segments of the industry, including a student group from Texas A&M University, a chapter group from the Midwest Association of Golf Course Superintendents (Geneva, Ill.), and several exhibitors.

The volunteers worked two full days on two work sites in the Jefferson Parish and Central City section of New Orleans, doing tasks such as laying sod, installing flashing, leveling dirt, building fences, finishing roofs and constructing stairs, walls and floors for local families.

The $10,000 donation to New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity was raised from show registrants and an unclaimed grand prize from the trade show floor's promotion Road to RICHE$. In addition, The Toro Co. provided a contribution to help provide materials for the volunteers.
