Georgia Golf Hall of Fame to Add Four Members

Larry Hinson, Johnny Paulk, Darwin White and the late Perry Adair - Georgians with enough championships and accolades to fill several trophy cases - will be inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame on January 10 in Augusta. The ceremony is sponsored by Augusta-based Club Car.

"These distinguished players and instructors certainly add to Georgia's rich golf history," said Gary Michel, president and CEO of Club Car. "We're very pleased to be part of the ceremony that honors their achievements and contributions."

The new inductees will bring the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame membership to 82. Previous inductees include Bobby Jones, Alexa Stirling Fraser, Jim Dent, Nancy Lopez, Larry Mize, Larry Nelson, Doug Sanders, Davis Love III, Louise Suggs, Hollis Stacy and Charlie Yates.

Following a distinguished collegiate (South Georgia College and East Tennessee State) and amateur career, Larry Hinson of Douglas, Ga., had 30 top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour.

Johnny Paulk has been the head golf professional at Jekyll Island Golf Club since 1968. He has been honored with numerous accolades over his career, including the Governor's Faithful Service Award, the President's Award from the Georgia PGA, PGA of America's Public Merchandiser of the Year (three times) and the Georgia PGA Eastern Chapter's Golf Professional of the Year (twice). Paulk has served as an announcer at the Masters Tournament since 1979.

During his career as a PGA professional, Darwin White was associated with several golf clubs in Georgia and Alabama. He won the Alabama PGA Championship in 1954 and '56 and the Alabama Open Championship in 1958. He won the Atlanta Open in 1964, and the Senior Division of the Georgia PGA Championship six times during an eight-year period from 1973-80. In 1983, he won the National PGA Senior age group division and was named Georgia Section PGA Match Play Champion at age 63.

Perry Adair grew up in Atlanta playing golf at East Lake GC and was an integral part of the golden age of golf. Adair toured the country as part of "The Dixie Kids," playing in matches to raise money for the Red Cross during World War I with Alexa Stirling and Bobby Jones. He was the 1914 East Lake Country Club Champion, Southern Amateur Champion in 1921 and 1923, and Georgia Amateur Champion in 1922. He was inducted into the Georgia Tech Hall of Fame in 1973.
