Fundraising Goal Exceeded in NE Kansas Event

The 29th Annual Golf Classic benefiting Catholic Charities Foundation of Northeast Kansas has given hope to people of all faiths in need throughout Northeast Kansas. Golf Classic sponsors, committee members and golfers raised more than $156,000.

Funds raised will help Catholic Charities keep pace with the double digit percentage increase in requests at three local Emergency Assistance Centers. The Golf Classic was founded by the Ben and Betty Zarda Family and presented by the Ronald D. Deffenbaugh Foundation.

"We are grateful to the Ben and Betty Zarda family for their twenty-nine years of dedication to Catholic Charities and the Golf Classic. It was with their support that we were able to raise the necessary funds for those in need," Wendy Doyle, Catholic Charities Foundation of Northeast Kansas Executive Vice President, said.

More than 165 golfers gathered for a round of golf, picnic lunch, dinner, live auction and awards. The Golf Classic was held on May 17, 2010, at Shawnee Golf and Country Club.
