Four Tied Atop Puerto Rico Open before Darkness Falls

The first round was finally completed in the Puerto Rico Open, a PGA Tour event running opposite the WGC-CA Championship in Miami. Rain washed out play both Thursday and Friday in the $3.5 million event, but better weather prevailed Saturday at Trump International Golf Club-Puerto Rico.

Before play was called due to darkness, Americans Paul Stankowski, Jeff Overton and Chad Collins, along with Jonathan Vegas of Venezuela, were atop the leaderboard at 8-under par. With the exception of Stankowski, who managed to complete his 36 holes, each of the others were somewhere in their second rounds before play was halted.

After firing matching 7-under 65s, Americans Skip Kendall and Kris Blanks led at the end of the first round. Neither had teed off on their second rounds before darkness fell on the course.

After opening with three birdies and an eagle in his first seven holes Friday, Kendall carded three birdies and a bogey over his final 11 holes Saturday. Blanks had seven birdies and no bogeys in his opening effort.

South African Rory Sabbatini, the top-ranked player in the field at 55th in the world, shot an opening-round 77.
