Fort Belvoir (Va.) Tournament to Benefit Military

The first-ever SemperComm Golf Classic will be held at the Fort Belvoir Golf Club in Alexandria, Va., on Friday, September 15. Proceeds from the tournament will be used to supply morale-boosting communications and entertainment equipment, software and services to small, overseas remote U.S. military bases.
Actress Karri Turner, best known as Lt. Harriet Sims in the popular television series "JAG,” will be cheering on the golfers. Turner is participating in the fundraising tournament as a goodwill celebrity ambassador and comes to the event via one of SemperComm's major partners, Stars For Stripes. Stars For Stripes is a nonprofit organization that brings celebrity entertainment to U.S. military personnel both at home and abroad.
"We really appreciate Karri's support of our event,” said Lara Coffee, SemperComm executive director. “Her participation in the Golf Classic will help us further SemperComm's mission and support our uniformed men and women. Karri is well known for her support of the military, and it's great to have a celebrity who really cares about our service personnel help us raise funds for SemperComm.”
Turner will be taking photos with participants and signing autographs at the event. Also, dinner with Turner will be raffled off to the highest bidder at the tournament. The winner and a guest will go out to dinner with Turner on Saturday, September 16.
"Karri is also bringing along two randomly chosen service members who are recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., from injuries sustained in Iraq or Afghanistan. Her support of our wounded veterans is exemplary, and we know the lucky guys who get to spend some time with her will certainly benefit from her spontaneity and great attitude,” Coffee added.
The SemperComm Golf Classic is a four-person scramble with a 2 p.m. shotgun start. Registration starts at 12:30 p.m., and dinner will be served starting at 6:30 p.m. A $10,000 putting contest is open to all tournament participants, and prizes will be awarded including a grand prize of four round-trip tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S.
Event tickets are still available; a foursome costs $450, while individuals may enter for $125. For more information about the event, contact SemperComm at 703/923-7611 or visit www.sempercomm.org.
