Former GCSAA President Brandt Dies at age 83

GCSAA past president James W. Brandt, CGCS, passed away April 20 at age 83. He was president of the association in 1968 and later received the GCSAA Distinguished Service Award in 1989. Mr. Brandt is survived by his wife Maxine, daughter Mary Beth and son, Robert A. Brandt of St. Charles, Mo. Also grandchildren, Blake Brandt and Nicole and Tyler McCoy.
Mr. Brandt was a charter member and past president in 1954-59 of the Central Illinois GCSA and later president of the Midwest Regional Turf Foundation in 1958. He was co-founder of the Illinois Turf Grass Foundation, serving as president in 1962-63, and also served on the agriculture advisory board at Danville Area Community College.
Mr. Brandt retired as golf course superintendent at Danville Country Club in 1988 after 35 years.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be sent to Saint Paul's Catholic Church, 1303 North Walnut, Danville, IL, or the James W. Brandt Scholarship Fund c/o the Central Illinois GCSA, 9 Isabella Drive, Auburn, IL, 62615.
