First Ever 'Missouri Golf Day' to Offer Free Activities for the Public

The 2011 Missouri Governor's Conference on Tourism tees off with the inaugural "Missouri Golf Day," October 11. The event features Major League Baseball Hall of Fame member and Gateway PGA Foundation president, Ozzie Smith, along with Joe Steranka, CEO of the PGA of America.

Open to the public, Missouri Golf Day will offer several free activities for all attendees. There will be no charge to watch the scramble-style golf tournament and you can have a free golf lesson from a PGA-certified professional. For kids, there's a free after-school golf clinic and other golf-related activities, which are still in the planning stages. No reservations are necessary.

The Golf Tournament is open to everyone, though individuals and four-person coed teams in the tournament must register in advance. There's still time to sign up at www.Industry.VisitMO.com. Click the "Governor's Conference" tab, print the golf registration form, and fax the completed form to the phone number given (no more mailed forms will be accepted). If you have questions, contact Shari Childs at Shari.Childs@ded.mo.gov.

Entrants will be able to win a 2012 Chevy Cruze, courtesy of Riley Chevrolet in Jefferson City. Score a hole-in-one on a select hole and drive away in a brand-new car.

Other dignitaries will include Mark Passey, Director of Regional Affairs for the USGA; representatives from golf associations and courses across the "Show-Me State"; leaders from throughout Missouri's tourism industry; and elected officials.

Missouri Golf Day will celebrate golf in Missouri. The tournament will take place at Jefferson City Country Club from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11.

During the festivities, officials from the Missouri Golf Association will unveil a golf economic impact study spearheaded by the World Golf Foundation. This study shows how important golf is to Missouri.

The annual Missouri Governor's Conference on Tourism gets underway October 12, at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City. Information and schedules can be found at the abovementioned website.
