Field Shaping up for Sorenstam's Ginn Tribute |
|
Annika Sorenstam's annual Ginn Tribute returns to the RiverTowne Country Club in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., May 26-June 1. With a $2.6 million purse, last year's player field included all of the top 50 players in the Rolex World Rankings and 94 of the top 100. A similar turnout is expected for 2008.
This year's honoree, Beth Daniel, is a native Charlestonian with a 29-year career in golf that includes induction into the LPGA Tour and World Golf Halls of Fames. The former touring pro is currently a commentator on the Golf Channel. Daniel is a three-time Rolex Player of the Year with 33 LPGA victories and will be the captain of the 2009 U.S. Solheim Cup Team.
Sorenstam made history in 2003 as the first woman to play in a men's PGA Tour event and was inducted into the World Golf and LPGA Halls of Fame the same year. She has the distinction of being the only female golfer to have shot a 59 in competition. She tops the LPGA's career money list with over $21 million in earnings.
