Fazio Course at Montesoro to Debut in November |
|
Acclaimed golf architect Tom Fazio will be unveiling his newest creation in November. Montesoro Golf Club will be the centerpiece of a private, gated development in Borrego, Calif. The par-72, 7,300-yard track, which will reflect its natural surroundings, will be accessible only by 375 property owners and their guests.
The layout is characterized by Fazio's trademark water features, mounding and bunker complexes. It will take advantage of the site's dramatic elevation changes, which range from 400 to 1,000 feet above the valley floor, while offering views of the nearby desert and Santa Rosa Mountains. The par-5 11th has 100 feet of elevation change, while the par-5 closer contains a 4-acre lake that borders the entire right side of the fairway all the way up to the green.
"I have never designed a golf course with as many elevation changes as Montesoro," said Fazio. "When I started to envision the unique character of this course, I thought that it would be very important to showcase the panoramic views, landscape and wildlife. This is a very special course in a very special place."
Montesoro will offer players an abundance of flora and fauna, with desert flowers such as verbena, penstemon, gazana, California poppies and blue bells on display. Wildlife - white owls, mule deer, hawks, coyotes and bighorn sheep - also abounds.
Fazio, who attributes much of his success to the 10 senior associates on his staff, has more credits on Golf Digest's list of America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses and Golfweek's collection of America's Best than any other architect. Fazio has also received the Old Tom Morris Award from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.
About Montesoro
Montesoro is located on 3,140 acres beside the Anza-Borrego State Park and just outside of Borrego, a small desert town in San Diego County. Less than two hours east of San Diego and one and a half hours from downtown Palm Springs, Montesoro will also have a boutique hotel and destination spa. In addition, members will have access to mountain biking, hiking, off-road motoring, Jeep tours and horseback riding. The property is ringed by more than 650,000 acres of protected park land, and offers expansive vistas of the Borrego Valley and the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountains. Montesoro’s lot and villa prices start at $299,000. For more information, call 866/879-3043 or visit www.montesoro.com. |
