EWGA Foundation Accepting Applications for Scholarship Program

The EWGA Foundation now is accepting applications for its Women On ParŪ scholarship program. The program was established in 2008 to provide financial assistance to nontraditional female students - women at least 30 years old. It targets women who need assistance in bolstering their education to allow them to get "on par" with their peers and to advance themselves, whether professionally or personally.

EWGA membership is not a requirement to apply or receive a scholarship. Applicants are required to be pursuing a technical/vocational degree, associates' or bachelor's degree and currently enrolled or accepted to enroll in an accredited school, college or university.

"This is only the second year for our 'Women On ParŪ' scholarship program," says Margaret Downey, president of the EWGA Foundation. "It is designed to help women who are first time applicants or returning to school to complete their degree. We believe these nontraditional "older" students will gain the support they need to get 'on par' and achieve their educational goals."

Last year's recipient, Jean Bolger of Lehigh, Florida utilized her $1000 scholarship to complete her final year at Edison College in Fort Myers, Fla. She will receive her bachelor's degree in public safety management in May.

"I thank the EWGA Foundation for helping me to achieve my goals," says 46-year-old Bolger, who is married to a sheriff's deputy and has an eight-year-old daughter. "Hopefully, my example will encourage others and especially my daughter to not wait twenty years to get a college education."

For complete eligibility requirements and application forms, see the EWGA Foundation tab under "Learn More About EWGA" at www.ewga.com.

The deadline for applications is April 30, 2009, and the scholarship will be awarded by June 30, 2009.
