Doak’s Firm Again Offers Internship Program

Tom Doak, one of the world’s most highly acclaimed golf course architects, is again offering an internship program for aspiring golf course architects. His company, Renaissance Golf Design, is offering one internship in golf course design for the summer or fall of 2005. The term of the internship is flexible depending on the winning candidate's circumstances.
Anyone may apply, regardless of experience. Once again, Doak is hoping to identify the most talented people entering the business and give them valuable experience whether their futures lie with Doak’s Renaissance Golf Design or another firm.
An internship with Tom Doak will offer experience in three areas: Office work at the company’s main office in Traverse City, Mich.; field work on the construction site of one of its active projects; and some opportunity to travel with Doak and/or other architects in the firm to evaluate potential new projects or consult on course design. The position will pay $5,000 for three months, including housing expenses in Traverse City and all other travel-related expenses during the internship. Applications should include only two pages:
Page 1. Personal information including academic background, prior work experience in the golf business, why you are interested in this internship, and dates you would be available to work.
Page 2. This page shall depict the applicant's design of an "ideal" golf hole of his or her own creation. Designs should be adaptable to a wide variety of site conditions [i.e., not dependent on oceanfront, huge oak trees, or other unusual features in order to work].
Designs inspired by existing golf holes are permitted, but in such circumstances the applicant should reference the original hole(s) and designer, explaining how the new design is different and why.
Submission Deadline
Applications should reach Doak’s Traverse City office no later than February 25, 2005. The company intends to select several finalists for personal interviews and award the internship before March 31, 2005. Address the application as follows:
