Dates Set for Inaugural Bucks County Amateur Championship |
|
The inaugural Bucks County Amateur Championships will be held at Bucks County Country Club on June 23-25, 2006. The tournament series begins with the Junior Championship on Friday, June 23, followed by the Amateur Championship and Amateur Handicap Championship on Saturday and Sunday, June 24 and 25. Proceeds from the events will help to benefit junior golfers in Bucks County.
The event will be modeled after the highly successful Montgomery County (Pa.) Amateur Championship. Brian Rogers, who heads up that event, has been named tournament director for the Bucks County Amateur Championships.
"We are extremely proud and excited to be able to bring the Montco Am formula to Bucks County," said Rogers. "The event is about celebrating and growing the game of golf in Bucks County through the community, businesses and charities."
The Junior Championship will be open to boys and girls ages 13-18 who reside in Bucks County. The Amateur Championship, open to Bucks County residents only, will feature men's championship division, men's senior division (ages 50 and over) and women's division (all ages) and will be open to golfers with a USGA handicaps index of 7.0 or lower (Championship Division), 10.0 or lower (Senior Division) and 15.0 or lower (Women's Division). The Amateur Handicap Championship is an open event for men and women regardless of residency or golf handicap. Players in the handicap championship will be placed in divisions based on age and gender and then flighted according to their USGA handicaps.
"This is a great opportunity for the Bucks County golf community to come out and be a part of a first class championship event," said Doria. "Bucks County has never had an official championship and it's time we recognize the best golfer in the county. As far as Bucks County Country Club is concerned, we now are a full service facility, open to the public, with country club amenities and want to be a part of this major step for golf in the county."
Tournament applications and information will be available at Bucks County Country Club and all Bucks County golf courses. For more information on Bucks County Country Club, call 215/343-0350 or visit www.golfbucks.com. For tournament information, contact Brian Rogers at 215/364-5055.
