Chesapeake Hills Unveils Major Enhancements, More to Come

In conjunction with the Calvert County Department of Economic Development, Billy Casper Golf (“BCG”) has announced a series of enhancements at Chesapeake Hills Golf Club in Lusby, Md., some of which have already improved the playing conditions for local golfers.
As part of the $1.5 million project, bunkers have received new drainage, fresh sand, and trimmed edges to help define the contours of the course’s fairway and greens. Newly paved cart paths have been added. In 2003-04, Chesapeake Hills’ fairways were replaced with high-quality Bermuda grass.
In upcoming months, the work includes an expansion of tees and greens, updated irrigation and drainage systems, clubhouse enhancements, a pavilion for events, new golf carts, parking lot resurfacing and upgraded landscaping.
“We have worked hard to add a number of enhancements to Chesapeake Hills,” says Tony Cianci, BCG’s Mid-Atlantic regional vice-president. “All of the projects were undertaken with the goal of making the course the best it can be, and players are already enjoying the great strides we continue to make.”
In seeking to attract players Chesapeake Hills extended reduced winter rates during the cart path construction and sand trap enhancement projects. With those projects now complete, seasonal rates of $29 on weekdays and $39 on Saturdays and Sundays before 12 p.m. resumed on Friday, July 1.
Local golfers are already noting the enhancements at the course. “I am very pleased with what’s happening at Chesapeake Hills,” said Calvert County attorney, Emanuel Demedis, an avid player and regular. “I would encourage anyone who has not played here in a while to come and see the improvements first hand. I think they will be pleasantly surprised.”
The 6,545-yard, par-72 layout features gently rolling hills and tree-lined fairways. Chesapeake Hills also involves a number of strategically placed ponds and creeks that provide a variety of challenges. The course in Lusby is located just north of historic Solomon’s Island.
