Chesapeake Hills Golf Club Receiving Improvements

Billy Casper Golf (“BCG”) recently announced that Chesapeake Hills Golf Club is undergoing a series of capital improvements. The project involves new cart paths, renovation of all bunkers, and a redesign of the bag-drop driveway.
The new cart paths will consist of a contiguous, eight-foot wide asphalt material running through the entire 6,545-yard layout. With play currently restricted to walking and pull carts during wet and rainy conditions, the new paths will allow carts on the course during inclement weather. Installation of the paths is now underway, and completion is expected in March.
Scheduled to begin in late February, the bunker renovation project calls for removal of existing sand and replacement with new sand, installation of new drainage materials and lines, and new sod around the perimeter of the traps. Once complete, the bunkers will provide a uniform look throughout the course.
In addition to new cart paths and improved bunkering, the area outside the golf shop will be redesigned for easy pick-up and drop-off of golf bags. The existing configuration will be widened and repaved as a circular drive, and the walkways from the bag-drop driveway to the clubhouse will be resurfaced. The project is scheduled to being in early spring and should be completed in under two weeks.
“These capital improvements will significantly upgrade the golf experience at Chesapeake Hills and will further bolster this excellent value in public golf,” says Tony Cianci, Middle Atlantic Regional vice president for BCG.
The course will also benefit from the purchase of two pieces of heavy equipment. A recently purchased “soil reliever” will allow for more consistent green conditions by improving both water and air flow to the soil. And a new “sidewinder” will enable maintenance crews to cut contoured areas such as green surrounds and tee surrounds where other mowers cannot provide a consistent cut.
About Chesapeake Hills
Located just minutes north of historic Solomon’s Island in Southern Calvert County, Chesapeake Hills is one of Southern Maryland’s public golfing gems. An 18-hole, par-72 layout featuring gently rolling hills and tree-lined fairways, Chesapeake Hills also includes a number of strategically placed ponds and creeks that provide a variety of challenges.
The course includes a practice facility equipped with a grass-tee driving range and a 4,000-square-foot putting green. In addition, Chesapeake Hills features a well-stocked golf shop, and the recently renovated Beacon Grille is available for corporate and group golf outings. Green fees at Chesapeake Hills range from $25 to $35, not including discounted senior, junior and twilight rates. Annual golf membership are available.
