Carlsbad Selects Management Company for New Municipal Course |
|
The City Council of Carlsbad, Calif., has announced that KemperSports will be the operator of its first public golf facility, now under construction. The Northbrook, Ill.-based company had been retained to provide construction supervision and pre-opening marketing services. KemperSports will assume management of facility operations upon opening of the course in July 2007.
Carlsbad is a coastal community of 95,000 in northern San Diego County approximately 30 minutes from downtown San Diego. The city serves as the home to several golf industry companies and manufacturers, including Callaway, Titleist, TaylorMade and Cobra. Also nearby are LEGOLAND California and other tourist businesses.
"We are confident that our partnership with KemperSports will translate into making this highly anticipated golf course a reality for the residents – golfers and non-golfers alike – of Carlsbad and surrounding communities," said Lisa Hildabrand, Carlsbad assistant city manager.
Golf course architect Greg Nash designed the 6,900-yard, environmentally-friendly layout, which has yet to be named. Nash has crafted several well-regarded public and private courses in California, Arizona and Nevada.
According to city officials, work on a 23,000-square-foot upscale clubhouse is also underway. The structure will house a golf shop, banquet facilities, a dining room equipped with a full-service kitchen and an outdoor deck with ocean views. In addition, the Carlsbad development will feature a fully-lighted driving range as well as public trails.
"We’re excited to be a part of this much-anticipated project," said Steve Skinner, president of KemperSports. "Southern California is a great golf market, and the new Carlsbad course should be among the best in the region."
