Camp Creek Completes Bunker Work

Camp Creek Golf Club has completed a major bunker project as part of its move toward privatization later this year. All 60 bunkers were upgraded with alabaster-white sand from the nearby Red Bay Sand Company, Inc.

The material provides a consistent, firm texture. Bunker liners were also installed on severe slopes to hold sand in place, prevent erosion and reduce the number of balls plugged in the bunker walls.

“This project elevates the quality of the bunkers at Camp Creek to a PGA Tour-caliber level found at many of the best private courses in the U.S.” says Will Hopkins, general manager. “We are excited to offer these enhanced conditions to our regular customers, first-time golfers and prospective members.”
The transition from public to private play will occur this summer, with restricted play for members and St. Joe Company resort guests to begin on Labor Day 2006. Under the privatization plan, play at Camp Creek would be limited to club members and their guests, guests of the WaterColor Inn and guests staying at St. Joe rental management properties.
Memberships in the club are expected to be available in June and will be sold only to property owners in designated JOE towns and communities in the area, including nearby WaterColor and WaterSound Beach. The cost has not been established.

About Camp Creek

Featuring a unique “dunescape” appearance, the Tom Fazio-designed Camp Creek was created for nearby owners and guests at St. Joe’s WaterColor and WaterSound Beach residential and resort communities. Camp Creek has been recognized for its environmental stewardship through designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System (ACSS). Superintendent Larry Livingston was similarly distinguished as a certified Audubon Steward.
