Boulder City Looking at Another Golf Course
The Boulder City Council has approved a request by Red RidgeGolf Development Co. to appraise city-owned property for a 36-hole, public golf facility. The land lies in the River Mountain foothills northwest of Industrial Road and Veterans Memorial Parkway. The project has been in the works for several years.
The city council in November 1998 approved a lease of 160 acres with an option to lease another 80 acres to Red Ridge, which would have built 18 holes with the potential to add nine more. The current plan involves 480 acres and 36 holes. Red Ridge’s Mike Geroux has secured financing from Boulder Ridge, LLC, backer of the Wolf Creek golf course in Mesquite.
Some local officials are concerned about this 36-hole venue competing with the new 27-hole golf facility being built by the city. Construction on that $18.6 million project began July 10. Designed by Rathert International, the course will be located on the south end of Adams Boulevard near Veterans Memorial Drive, just a few miles south of the Red Ridge development, which still needs a conditional-use permit before work can begin.
