Blind 92-Year-Old Gets Ace

Legally blind Leo Fiyalko couldn't see it, but his golf buddies did: a hole-in-one on the fifth hole at the Cove Cay Country Club in Clearwater, Fla. The legally blind Fiyalko, who suffers from macular degeneration, has been golfing for 60 years. But his 110-yard shot with a 5-iron January 10th was his first-ever hole-in-one.
"I was just trying to put the ball on the green," said Fiyalko, who tees off every Thursday with a group of golfers ranging in age from 70 to 90-plus. "It was my first hole-in-one, and I never saw it," he said.
Fiyalko used to have a 7 handicap, but now needs help lining up shots and finding his golf balls because he has peripheral vision only in his right eye.
One of his playing partners said it was obvious Leo had hit a pretty good shot. But the group didn't realize it was an ace until they got to the green and couldn't find the ball - until they looked in the hole. Fiyalko's friends later presented him with a plaque for his accomplishment.
