Bixler Goes Very Low |
|
University of Washington senior Zach Bixler shot an 11-under-par 60 Monday during the second round of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational. The collegiate event is being played at the par-71, 6,686-yard Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
Bixler is the fifth player in NCAA history to shoot 60, a feat also accomplished by former Husky Brock Mackenzie in 2003 at Eugene Country Club in Oregon.
"It's pretty overwhelming right now, I don't even know what it means yet," said Bixler, a native of Richland, Wash. "I just played really good and kept it going for 18 holes."
Bixler's round helped the Huskies to a seven-shot lead after two rounds, at 27-under 541. After an even-par 71 in the opening 18, Bixler was in second place, three strokes behind Daryl Fathauer of Louisville, who carded a 61 in the first round.
