Benefit Tournament for Injured Northeast Golf Writer
Bob Labbance, a well-known author of several Northeast guide books, photographer and an editor for several golf magazines, suffered a serious spinal cord injury in a fall off a foot bridge while golfing on August 31. Thanks to the support, cards, visits, good thoughts and prayers from friends and colleagues around the world – not to mention some very talented doctors, nurses and physical therapists – Bob is making tremendous strides.
Bob has remained positive and in high spirits throughout his ordeal. The hope is that Labbance will be released from the hospital in early November, though intensive physical and occupational therapy will continue.
Many have asked what they could do to help Bob and his family during his immediate and extended recovery. Fittingly, it was decided that a benefit golf event would be the way to go. Here are the particulars:
Name: The Double Bogey Bridge Dive Open
Date: October 18, 2004
Place: The Country Club of Vermont, Waterbury
Time: Lunch at 11:30
Golf: 12:30 (shotgun, scramble)
Reception: 5:00 (awards, appetizers and cash bar)
The entry fee is $100 per person. The fee includes a round at Vermont's top-ranked course, cart, shirt and lunch. As you might guess from the event's name and logo, this is intended to be a fun, lighthearted event.
A website (http://homepage.mac.com/bobodante/dbbdo/index.htm) has been developed that includes a printable, mail-able entry form as well as directions and more information about the fundraiser. Attendees can also RSVP via email to BridgeDiveOpen@aol.com. Those who can't make it but still want to help, can see the website for details on how to contribute.
