Ballesteros Out of Intensive Care

Seve Ballesteros was released from the intensive care unit at Madrid's La Paz hospital. The Spaniard, who's recovering from three operations to remove a brain tumor, will remain in the hospital to continue his rehabilitation.

"Although it's positive news I ask you to be prudent because the (recovery) process is slow and he will remain in hospital for a while yet," hospital spokeswoman Susana Reverter Vazquez said in a statement. "He is continuing his rehabilitation and visitors are restricted."

The 51-year-old golf legend compiled a career record of 87 titles, including three British Opens and two U.S. Masters. He retired last year following bouts of back pain and began concentrating on designing golf courses.

Ballesteros was taken to La Paz on October 6 after feeling dizziness at Madrid's international airport. The brain tumor diagnosis was made within the next few days, and Ballesteros underwent three operations in less than three weeks. The third operation on October 24 lasted six and a half hours.

His tumor affects two types of brain cell and spreads inside the brain cavity. The hospital still can't determine when Ballesteros will be released. Visits, on a restricted basis, are being allowed.
