Allen Cruises to Second Champions Tour Victory


Michael Allen closed with a 3-under 68 in the final round of the Encompass Insurance Pro-Am of Tampa Bay to win the 54-hole Champions Tour event by three strokes. The win was worth $240,000.

The 53-year-old Allen, the 2009 Senior PGA champion, had five birdies and two bogeys Sunday for his second victory on the over-50 circuit. The Californian ended up at 12-under 201, three clear of Kenny Perry, who shot a 6-under 65 at TPC Tampa Bay in Lutz, Fla.

Alone in third at 206 was Peter Senior (67), while another shot back was Corey Pavin (70).

Germany's Bernhard Langer closed with a 71 to take fifth place at 209, while another stroke back were Russ Cochran (11) and Olin Browne (72).

In his Champions Tour debut, three-time PGA Tour winner Kirk Triplett closed with a 72 to share eighth place at 211 with Bill Glasson (69), Jay Haas (71), Brad Bryant (71) and David Eger (72).

Defending champion John Cook was never a threat this week, posting rounds of 73 ,70 and 75 to end up tied for 37th at 4-over 218.

After starting the tournament promisingly and taking the 18-hole lead with a 65, 63-year-old Bruce Fleisher finished with weekend rounds of 78 and 74 to tie for 32nd at 2-over 217.
